Board

The Board is the legal authority for the Association and a Board Member is a trustee representing the interests of the stakeholders of Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association. As such both the Board and its members are entrusted by the community for the overall responsibility for the 63 kindergartens and Head Office which come under the umbrella of the Association. The Kidsfirst Board meets a minimum of eight times a year with their primary foci on wider issues of organisational purpose, direction and policy as well as having a role in monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of management.

Your Voice in Our Future

Kindergarten has been at the heart of our communities for almost a hundred years now, and one of its strengths has always been the strong involvement of parents and teachers.

Parents have been an integral part of the life of our kindergartens throughout the decades.

Their role has changed as society has, with a heavy emphasis today on making it possible for families to be a part of their kindergarten in the way that suits them best – especially as life gets busier and work both in and out of the home places more demands on us.

The role of our teachers, too, has evolved and grown, with it now being routine for working parties to be formed to look at specific opportunities and challenges.

Many of our individual kindergartens continue to enjoy high levels of active and enthusiastic parent participation, and Kidsfirst as an organisation does have some input from parents and teachers, both on the Board and for specific initiatives.

But we think it’s time for more people to have more of a say – more often.

And that’s what “Your Voice in Our Future” is all about.
